How Much Are Scrap Circuit Boards Worth?

If you’ve got a bin of old boards from a tech refresh, a stack of manufacturing runoff, or a server room full of decommissioned equipment, you’ve probably wondered whether circuit boards are worth anything on the back end. They are. Scrap circuit boards carry real commodity value because of the metals packed into them during production, and a buyer who knows the market will pay for them rather than charge you to take them away. What you actually receive depends on how your material grades out, how much you have, and who you’re working with.

What Makes Circuit Boards Valuable to E-Scrap Buyers

There’s a reason experienced e-scrap buyers pay for circuit board recycling rather than walking away from it. The value is built directly into the material.

Precious Metals Inside Every Board

Printed circuit boards are manufactured with gold, silver, copper, and palladium, all materials with active commodity markets. Gold is most commonly found in connectors and contacts. Copper runs through the traces and solder connections. Silver and palladium appear in smaller concentrations depending on board type and origin. Per-board quantities are small, but they become meaningful at volume. That’s what makes circuit board recycling for cash a practical option for manufacturers, IT departments, and businesses with consistent output, not just professional scrappers.

Why Buyers Pay Instead of Charge

PCB recycling generates downstream revenue from metal recovery. A processor who can efficiently extract materials from circuit boards has the margin to pay sellers rather than charge them. That also means the buyer’s processing capability directly shapes what you receive. A buyer with strong downstream operations and a legitimate recycling chain can pay more because they recover more from the same material.

What Determines How Much Scrap Circuit Boards Are Worth

Grade, volume, and condition are the three variables that move the number up or down. Knowing where your material sits in each category helps you set realistic expectations before you bring it in.

Board Grade

Grade reflects the density and quality of recoverable materials in a given lot. Boards dense with components, such as server motherboards, industrial controls, and fully populated telecom equipment, generally carry more recoverable material and price accordingly. Stripped boards, low-populated boards, and boards that are primarily plastic sit at the lower end of the scale. CJD E-Cycling evaluates material against established grading tiers and prices based on where your lot lands. Sellers with mixed material receive a rate that reflects the composition across the entire lot rather than its best pieces.

Volume

Larger volumes typically unlock better per-pound rates. Manufacturers and IT departments with consistent circuit board output are generally better positioned than one-time sellers because their volume creates a predictable arrangement for both parties. If your operation generates scrap circuit boards on a recurring basis, setting up a commercial buying arrangement is more efficient than treating each load as a one-off.

Condition

Heat damage, corrosion, and chemical contamination reduce recoverable material and lower the payout. Clean, dry boards with intact components give processors more to work with and return better results. If you’re accumulating material before a scheduled drop-off or pickup, keeping it dry and away from heat sources is a small step that pays off in the final rate.

What Scrap Circuit Boards Are Paying at CJD

CJD publishes e-scrap prices openly so sellers can compare before they come in. The range across circuit board grades is wide, which is one more reason grade matters more than almost anything else in your final payout.

The Spread: $0.35 to $16.00 Per Pound

At the low end, basic low-grade boards and power boards pay between $0.35 and $0.45 per pound. Mid-range material, including P4 motherboards and mid-grade boards, lands between $1.50 and $3.75 per pound. High-grade boards without ferrous metal, aluminum, or batteries currently pay $6.00 per pound. Specialty categories reach further: hard drive boards and silver memory pay $8.00 per pound, and gold memory pays $16.00 per pound. Mixed ceramic processors top the list at $25.00 per pound.

Why a Mixed Lot Can Pay Very Differently

A single bin of boards can include material from several tiers at once. P3 motherboards and PCI cards fall in the mid-to-high range at $3.75 and $4.00 per pound respectively, while colored low-grade motherboards land at $1.50 per pound. How the lot grades out across those tiers determines the per-pound average you receive.

Prices shift with commodity markets, so the most accurate number is always what’s on CJD’s current e-waste price list on the day you bring material in.

Find Out What Your Circuit Boards Are Worth

Scrap circuit boards vary widely in what they’re worth, and the grade of your material plays a major role in the payout you receive. CJD E-Cycling evaluates lots on-site, prices based on current market rates, and has worked with commercial e-scrap sellers across Metro St. Louis since 2012.

Who Typically Has Scrap Circuit Boards Worth Selling

Circuit board scrap shows up in a wider range of commercial situations than most sellers expect. The volume and consistency of what you have usually points toward what kind of arrangement makes the most sense.

Manufacturers With Board Runoff

Facilities that produce or assemble electronics often accumulate circuit board scrap from defective units, bad batches, or end-of-line changeovers. This material tends to grade consistently, which makes it a strong fit for recurring commercial e-waste buying arrangements. Manufacturers in the Metro St. Louis area who need a dependable outlet for production fallout will find CJD’s program well matched to their volume and schedule. That kind of ongoing relationship is simpler to manage and typically pays better than coordinating individual loads.

IT Departments and Technology Refreshes

When an organization upgrades its infrastructure, old servers, desktops, and networking gear leave behind boards alongside the larger devices. CJD handles material at both the device and board level, so there’s no need to separate streams before bringing material in. One engagement covers the full picture.

How Drop-Off and Pickup Work at CJD E-Cycling

Getting paid for scrap circuit boards at CJD is a straightforward process, whether you’re coming in with a single load or setting up recurring commercial pickups.

Drop-Off at the Edwardsville Facility

Sellers can bring material directly to CJD’s facility at 5257 N. IL-157 in Edwardsville, Illinois. Drive-through drop-off is available with no appointment needed. The team evaluates material on-site and pays based on current rates for the grade and volume present. For sellers who want a baseline before coming in, current rates across electronic scrap categories are available to review before you load up.

Commercial Pickup for Larger Volumes

Manufacturers and businesses with volume that’s impractical to transport themselves can schedule commercial pickup directly with CJD. For operations with consistent output, a recurring pickup arrangement removes the logistical burden and keeps material moving on your schedule. CJD’s team handles coordination from scheduling through processing.

Work With an E-Scrap Buyer Who Prices Fairly

Circuit board recycling for cash works best when you’re dealing with a buyer who grades honestly, prices based on current commodity data, and processes material through a certified downstream. CJD E-Cycling is R2v3 certified, family-owned and woman-owned, and has been buying and processing electronic scrap in the Metro St. Louis area since 2012.

Whether you have a one-time load from a technology refresh or consistent manufacturing runoff to move on a schedule, the team gives you a straight answer on what your material is worth and pays competitively for it.
